IKEA Karlstad Footstool Ottoman Free Pattern

September 13, 2016

Do you have one of these? A Karlstad footstool? Is your slipcover old and crusty? Make a new one for the cost of only 2 yards of fabric! I rarely throw away a piece of IKEA furniture just because the slipcover is dingy. Recently IKEA has begun to phase out the Karlstad collection.
I guess it's inevitable. All good things must come to an end. But that's bad for me since I have a very large IKEA Karlstad sectional and matching ottoman which are structurally just fine but are in desperate need of new covers which IKEA no longer sells.
So I decided to take apart the IKEA ottoman cover and make myself a new cover for a fraction of what it would have cost to buy a new one anyway. After I took it apart I made the pattern for you! In case you too have a Karlstad footstool and are in need of a new cover too.
Get the free pattern below!

Here's the way the pieces fit together on your fabric.
Using 45" wide fabric. 2.5 yards

Using 54" wide fabric. 2 yards.
Materials needed:
55"+ zipper
3 yards of velcro (the soft side only)
Either 2 yards of 54" fabric or 2.5 yards of 45" fabric.

This is how they fit together.
The tricky part is the inside piece which is connected to the short side of the Inside Edge pieces with a Inside Edge pieces sandwiched in between the zipper and the Outside Bottom pieces.  I should say that the zipper and the Inside piece are optional. You can still make this slipcover without them. It's just a more solid/tight fitting piece with it. I didn't take pictures while I was making the one shown above but I plan on making another later. In the meantime Here's how it looks underneath.
The Inside Edges connected to the Outside Edges.
The zipper connected to both the Inside Edges and the Outside Edges. Like I said earlier the Inside Edge pieces are in between the zipper and the Outside Edges.
Here's the velcro on the bottom.
In the meantime if you are confused I recommend looking at your current slipcover and seeing how it fits together.

I am printing the pattern now. Thank you for this. I would like to ask how you got the feet off?

Thanks so much, Mona

Thanks so much for the pattern. Love it. I am about halfway through completing my karlstad reupholstery. Can you tell me if you included a seam allowance in this pattern.
