It happened again.

August 30, 2010

Okay, so y'all remember my last weirdness. Funny yeah. But I unplugged the machine and then Thursday evening Brian came home from work and said that early about 3am in the morning he heard the sewing....again.

"Oh, I must have left it plugged in. I'm sorry. Can you go unplug it. And unplug the serger too."

So he went up and when he came back down he said that the sewing machine was unplugged. I got goosebumps all over when he said that. BUT the serger was plugged in and so he had unplugged that.

Now I would have just assumed that it was the serger but for the fact that when it happened the first time it was the sewing machine that was all tangled up with an error code.

So now I'm really kinda freaked out. I keep lying in bed, sitting on the sofa worrying that I'll hear it in the middle of the night. How creepy would that be? I made Brian go up last night and unplug the peddles as well and bring them downstairs. So if I do hear it again. If that happens, you'll know my next post will be about how I'm looking at new houses.

{TWILIGHT ZONE MUSIC}

Hubby and I lived in a haunted apartment in San Diego...the cabinet doors would open all by themselves over night.. like...ALL the cabinet doors in the kitchen... It was a small one bedroom apartment and we didn't hear anything...

This is really strange but something similar happened to me, and, it turns out, other people in my family. My older brother used to play bass guitar and he'd spend hours in his room strumming away... When he left home to go to uni, I still used to hear him 'playing' in his room. At first I sat on the landing listening but then it freaked me out and I wouldn't go upstairs alone (I was about 7). I never told anyone why because I thought they'd think I was mad. Years later we did have a conversation about it and my mum and sister heard the same thing. I don't dismiss the notion of spirits at all but wonder if we were 'hearing' something we were used to hearing. Keep everything unplugged anyway!

Ok - now it's getting even creepier!! I hope that there is some logical explanation for all this! Isn't there?

I was so immersed in the story that I forgot to mention that you are one reasonable girl, posting such a photo, trying to keep on the sane but bitter side!

Melinda said... Best Blogger Tips

Honestly, I bet it was the serger. Your outlets in that room probably have a problem, maybe you're getting a power serge and its affecting your machines. I'm sure its nothing scary! :)

I'd leave out some simple projects to see if they get done. Put those ghosts to good use, no sense in them just being freeloaders (free spirits? Ha! I kill myself).

Oh my goodness! Creepy! I haven't ever really had something like that happen to me...but I live in Savannah, GA which is one of the oldest towns in America. So of course everyone says it's haunted. I went on one of those ghost tours for my best friend's bachelorette party and they told us Savannah is known to be one of the most, if not the most haunted city in America. I have heard lots of weird stories from friends throughout the years of stuff happening at their houses or went camping or whatnot. BUT, back to the tour...there is this one house in Savannah that is supposedly so haunted the tourguides are not "allowed" to walk you down the street after the sun goes down. I normally don't really buy into that stuff and think they make it up for tourism, but the guide walked us to the corner during our tour and was letting us look at the house and after about 30 seconds of me looking at the house all of a sudden my nose felt like it was bleeding...but it wasn't. It felt like someone hit me or something. It hurt really bad and it didn't stop hurting until we got about 5 blocks or so away from the house and then I felt totally fine. Creepy. Who knows what that was about! Figment of my imagination because I was already on edge? Did a spirit punch me? :) Who knows! It really freaked me out though! I was on edge the rest of the tour.

eeeeek! so creepy!

We're all haunted by fashion of days past or regret a beautiful garment left on the store rack. Cleary this ghost is bothered by a beautiful gown she never completed and is beckoning you to sew it for her!

Oh my creeps! I would be freaking out and would not sleep alone. I would probably be staying outside the house. LOL! My gosh that is freaky. I just hope it's nothing to scary or anything. Did you buy that machine new or was it pre-used? Just asking! hehehe... Well, I guess the ghost or whatever it was just wanted to make something. Must be inspired from all of your great creations. :)

scary, I hope there is some logical explanation.

Marie & Sabr,
You are too funny.

Kathya said... Best Blogger Tips

actually it is pretty common for that to happen. i don't want a logical explanation for it.
my mom had sewing machines because she was a seamstress and they were the type with the paddle(sorry, i cant remember the name English is my second language)and they will start sewing by themselves. what my mom would say is "go tot he room when it happens and tell the ladies (ghost) that is time to go home" and it will peacefully will go away and leave your machines alone.
or tell hubby to do it.

I have read that young spirits can visit you through technology. I started researching this when my friend died and the radio and TV would turn on in the middle of the night. I have also heard typing many times and tapping on my walls. This has happened the past 6 years in 3 different houses. You will get use to it, consider it someone saying Hi :)

If it is a ghost you need to ask it leave your machine alone. Sounds silly I know but it works (been there done that with something else.

Otherwise I don't know.

That is creepy. I'd make my husband check it out too. I'm totally a fraidy cat and worry about that kind of thing. One person posted about a power surge, that could be a good explanation. Or I know my cat has sat on my peddle a few times and done some sewing of her own...do you own cats? :) Hopefully you do, and mystery solved. Good luck, and keep us updated. I'm interested to hear if it happens again.

My goodness! That's sure freaky! I hope you figure out why this is happening and you get some peace of mind!

Oh my, that is weird, but I'm sure there is a logical explanation for it. There has to be!

This probably doesn't help, and I am not fully sure where I stand on the whole ghosts have nothing better to do than haunt us, but when I worked at a preschool my aide said there was a spirit there. One day it scared one of the little boys in my class. She verified it was in the bathroom where he got scared. I got so angry, I forgot that I didn't really believe all of this stuff went in there shut the door and told him that he better leave my kids alone or I was going to have the school blessed and kick his ghost butt outta there. After that, he left where ever he was if I came in. He didn't bother my students either. All my friend said is it was a younger man or boy and that it wasn't a bad spirit. She thought he wanted to play. Maybe if you go reason with it, it will leave your stuff alone, assuming it isn't some kind of technological power surge something or other. I hope it is. That stuff is freaky and prefer not to think about it.
PS Hi, I am newish.

Oooh, you have a ghost! And one that likes to sew. That's cool.

I agree with leaving out projects and seeing if they're finished for you. But forget about the simple ones, leave out something that you don't want to finish. Hopefully it'll be a helpful ghost.

yikes!
I'd be more of the fraidy cat side of not wanting to mess with it! I'd prolly have my husband or someone go in and bless the room and the whole house!
when I first saw the picture I was wondering if maybe it was a joke... or if it was a REAL picture that you'd taken!! :P

I'm not a big believer in the supernatural, at least not in the way that tv and movies portray it. However, my microwave kept running the popcorn feature the other night and it was freaking me right out.

I have enough temptation without my appliances trying to get me to gain weight.

This happened to me! I studied costume production at school and there were many sewing all-nighters. When I needed a quick power-nap, I would let myself into my advisor's office (we were good friends) and sleep on her sofa. One night, after all my classmates had gone home and I was the only person in the building, I woke bolt awake by the sound of an industrial sewing machine running at full speed. It even stopped and started as if a human was operating it. I knew the shop was locked and that no one was in the building. I asked around the next day and no one but myself was in the building that night. I was a little nervous about pulling all-nighters after that.

Before you move house, here's a foolproof way to determine if your sewing machine is indeed being used. First, unplug the power cord. Next, put a piece of fabric over the needle plate making sure the needle is up. If the machine is used, you will have proof of the stitches on the fabric. Alternatively, have your husband's hearing checked. Good luck.

angelique said... Best Blogger Tips

haha you'd better change that ABOUT ME bit where you say you keep your sewing machines plugged in....not any more!!! :-)
do you have cats because they could have walked over the foot paddle & set it going if the machine was on....logical explanation. alternatively - call your real estate agent & get looking !!

Oooh, creepy. My parents house has a friendly ghost too. I remember a few years back when I was younger and still living at home, I woke in the middle of the night to the sound of my favorite song playing on my Discman (yep, before Ipods) as loud as it would go through my earphones on the floor at the end of my bed. Thinking maybe the dog had stepped on it, I went to switch it off and take out the batteries and turns out, there weren't any.

Some things just can't be explained but if you do have a sewing-ghost, maybe you should leave out a pile of mending for it do, at least then you don't have to do it! lol

I think there is a ghost in my basement that makes my thread break every time Im about to make a mistake :) its happened more than a couple times. Ive come to use it as an advantage and sometimes I ask it to help me find something and whadya know...I always find it :)
Sounds weird, but if you ever watch those ghost shows, which of course I do, late at night esp when all im all alone they tell you the same thing–If you are really freaked out, ask it to leave. :)
