Henri's New Nursery

February 18, 2013

I realize Henri is now 1 year old which is a little late to be designing a nursery for him but I'm just now getting to moving his nursery to a real sized (though still small) bedroom. I think I'm going neutral with a pop of color. Orange, grey, white scheme. It's not girly yet not drab.
1. With maybe a redesigned bamboo dresser/changing table. 2 Paint the Jenny Lind crib white with solid orange crib sheet. 3. Buy this grey trellis rug. 4. Sew non-functioning curtains with this fox fabric on the sides of the plantation blinds. 5. Faux bois upholstered Ikea footstool. And faux bois bumper and crib skirt, orange ties. 6. Orange, grey, white mobile. 7. Linen grey and white piped Ikea armchair. Then restain an existing toy box grey. Sew an orange linen and white piping box cushion with Henri's name embroidered in white on the center to be placed on top of the toy box. 9. Sew this felt circle pillow in orange.

Anyone else out there have some good grey, orange, white nursery ideas?

I don't have any ideas for you, but I love the fox fabric for the curtains. And the piping on the armchair is such a beautiful detail. Maybe just add an orange pillow to bring in the pop of color you want. :)

@DianeI KNOW! Right. Actually a friend of mine, Ally, on Pinterest found it. Here's her Pinterest site:

It's kind of expensive but I haven't found anything else as quaint.

Ha, I *just* did our baby's nursery in gray, with dark teal, lime, and orange accents. Went with a robot theme, but that's because my husband is such a geek. I love the foxes. I ended up getting this chair with the charcoal cover, and I LOVE it. The down feathers make it so comfortable, and it is the perfect size for me. Plus since it's a cover (you really can't tell in real life), it's fairly easy to take it off and wash it. Doesn't have the white piping, but I was easily able to add a dark teal pillow to it (in the store it was displayed with orange, but I couldn't convince the hubby we needed that much orange, haha), and I love what it adds to the nursery. Plus it's perfect for nursing and snuggling.

Anyway, I did that chair (and ottoman), a quilt in the colors (you can see it on my instagram from back in Oct. if you want, my user name is jwkilger), gray sheets, with some orange sheets for spares, a green lampshade from target, and I'm working on a pelmet-box style curtain out of a gray chevron print from Hobby Lobby, and bumpers for the crib made from this one. I've never had enough space to have a real nursery before this baby, and it's been so fun to put it all together. I also made a robot mobile similar to the one you have of the circles above, just using paper and a silhouette. So easy, and so cute. Anyway, all of this is to say that I love your nursery choices, and I'm passionate about these colors apparently, haha. I know whatever you put together will be amazing. :)

@Kathleen Frances

Yay for the fox fabric! I am going to be buying a couple yards soon and I will let you know if I love it in person as much as in the image.

@Kathleen Frances

It's definitely going to turn out great!

The pillow reminds me of a project that we had in sewing class (which I skipped), that involved cutting out waaaaay too many circles to adorn a shrug made out of a T-shirt. Just be sure to have good scissors ready!

This is such a lovely color scheme. We have done something similar in my son's room with navy blue and orange. It makes me feel better that you are still working on your son's nursery. Mine is 4 months old and we still have things to do.

Love the ideas! I like when a room isn't too babyish- or too much of a theme. I can't seem to find that chair on Ikea's website. Is it the Ektorp chair? I love contrasting piping! I'll check back in the comments to see if you have time to answer- a link would be great!
