RSS vs. Facebook

July 4, 2012

I mostly view all my blogs and keep up with my personal friends via Facebook. I don't think I've looked at my blogger reader in months. If you too are more of a Facebook fan than a RSS feeder then, by all means, follow me via Facebook. I started the page months ago but haven't promoted it or mentioned I had one available until a few days ago and I don't know why. It's so much easier. You'll get all the posts that don't make it to my front page like this one for instance and it's actually better than RSS feed because it has a photo to accompany the blurb. Just go here and click "Like" and you'll be notified in your newsfeed of any update.

Also if you're into Google+ there's a page for that;) Check it out.

I use an RSS feeder as I am not an active FB user and find most blogs I follow to be RSS friendly with pictures coming through. With your feed I only click through on the posts that I read and find I must see what you are talking about. Cheers!

I subscribe to your blog through Google Reader. I find it is a great took because I can have all the blogs I like to read in one place and they don't get lost in the news feed on Facebook. I must admit, though, in the interest of full disclosure, though I subscribe to your blog, I very seldom read your posts. It is frustrating that I can't see the whole post in my Reader, so I usually don't bother to click over. I think if I could see the whole post, I would actually be inspired to come over and comment, but the first two sentences are only occasionally enough to earn my click.

I have found that even though I "like" a few blogs through facebook, I don't get to see every post from them. Facebook decides which ones come through and which do not. Using Google's RSS, I know every post will come my way. Then I can decide whether to read more or just continue on.

I'm a RSS feed reader. Because of my job (& a few personal reasons too), joining Facebook isn't something that I've done so it's all via blogs for me.

I agree with the other posters - I also use RSS, and wish your posts showed more than a small text blurb. While everyone is entitled to their own use of technology, I like to keep things separate. FB for friends, RSS for blogs.

@moonlightsewingI agree with moonlightsewing. I prefer to follow blogs via Reader due to Facebook's privacy policy. I also don't read all your posts as I only get a preview. I must admit I miss the old grosgrain that was much more focused on sewing

@Sewing PrincessThanks for your feedback. You're certainly welcome to keep using the reader. I only mentioned FB because I know it's easier for some people.

As for your comment about the sewing, I agree. It's sort of broken my heart to not post as much original content as I used to. But I was talking with Brian yesterday and we were lamenting the same thing. Two things have changed since Henri was born, 1.Henri was born;) and he takes up a little more of my limited free time but also Brian works in Philly now which is a four hour commute everyday and he comes home after dark whereas before he could just come home from work and help me with a photoshoot during the day after 5pm.

But we both agreed that what drew people to my blog originally was my sewing content. So he agreed to come home a little early if I needed to work in a photoshoot and I agreed to try and set some time aside everyday for original content.

Hopefully, you will see a change soon. I can't guarantee anything but I will be trying.

Thanks again for your voice:)

I found your site today due to a flower pin tutorial posted at Pinterest, and have enjoyed looking through your older posts.

But when I tried subbing to your RSS feed, there weren't any pics. So I unsubbed, because really, why bother with pic-less posts when most other blogs have them (including blogspot blogs).

Facebook is only for people I know personally.

For those of you who have said that they would like photos to come through the RSS I will be switching to Wordpress soon which will give me the option of integrating thumbnail images into the RSS feed. So I hope to have that available within the next month or month after.
