My Project Runway Dream Challenge

February 23, 2010

As you might have guessed I love Project Runway.

Last episode the designers had a 'Little Girl' challenge. My dream challenge. I was totally PSYCHED! So many really creative pieces. When Mila was describing the 'itty bitty' dress forms I realized why I love designing children's clothes so much. I love everything miniature. Dollhouses, dogs, dress forms. There's something that delights me about small versions of large things.

I was surprised/disappointed that Jonathan's pieces got such bad reviews. The judges said it was too sophisticated for a child. Maybe that's why I liked it.

When Michael Kors compared the adult version to a toilet paper tornado I had to agree but call me strange I've always thought bridal shower toilet paper wedding gowns were a little beautiful. Couldn't you totally see them using toilet paper for a project runway challenge?! I mean is that far from newspaper?

I liked Jonathan's child dress a lot too. I wish there were more kids' clothes out there with a more sophisticated design aesthetic.

I was surprised about Jonathan's reviews, too! A little frilly for my taste, but I didn't think they deserved the comments they got from the judges!

I liked the little girl's dress before the ruffle was added. I think yellow is soo cute for a child. Also, I hated Mila's color blocking! with the cow spots and pink and green! I would never dress my daughter in that...however, the silhouette was cute.

Also, I think YOU should hold a project runway challenge...since you have such great design/sewing skills, you'd be a great judge for us novices! that way we could get some expert critique and we can all join in on the project runway dream!

anyway, just a thought:)

I love Carissa's idea of the children's runway challenge! I wish they had a childrens' version of project runway on tv. I would apply to be on it in a heartbeat. I liked the yellow before the ruffle. I pretty much thought they all had some great things about them.

I agree. Jonathan's was sweet. I thought the little girl's dress was a great balance on whimsy and chic. Seth Aaron was fun but that seemed to me like the cheap mall outfit! though I did like that he gave her a purse. Little girls and purses are SO adorable.

I liked Jonathan's too! I love the bright yellow. I think the adult's was kinda of cute too, maybe I would have preferred it if that treatment just just half of the dress, either the top or the bottom and the other half was a solid. Either way, there were some that should have a a much lower score than him. I often question the judges taste...

I have to think that it's really different in person than it seems on TV to see some of those garments walk the runway. The judges and I frequently don't see eye to eye. I, too, HATED Mila's color blocked nonsense! It was like an outfit for an annoying, short attention span cartoon character, not a real child. Who would want to look at that all day?

My daughter liked this one, but mostly since it was yellow. What I thought was most funny is that her least favorite was Emilios pink frilly Easter looking dress. My daughter is 5 and I don't know any 5 year old who would pick that dress. Maybe a mother would, but an independent 5 year old certainly wouldn't. She loved Seth Aarons though.
