Not my best performance.

May 20, 2010

I am not having the best week.

Let me start off by saying that I've decided to do the Frock by Friday next Monday. I went to the fabric store and nothing inspired me as much as the fabric I ordered and it seemed like such a waste to use it for something else. But also, I thought that if I waited another week I could get some people involved who said that they couldn't start until next Monday.

So if you were one of those people, you are in luck. I hope you can join us.

Okay, now, besides that debacle. I spent hours on this dress that turned out to be a dud. That sucks, you know. That doesn't happen too often but when it does, it just makes me want to not look at the blog all day.

Losing that steam has thrown my entire week's schedule off. I wanted to post a bunk bed tent tutorial on Friday but I just don't have it in me.

Another defeating event this week is that Brian has been working from early in the morning until late at night and I really don't have anyone else to take the photos for me. If I would have planned better I would have made a couple things for Lily or another tutorial so that I could take the photos myself.

On a bright note, I thought of a very cute idea for a Lily giveaway this morning as I was in between sleep and consciousness that I'm going to try today if I have time, then post about tomorrow.

And on an even brighter note, I picked some peonies from my garden yesterday and put them in a vase on my dining table which inspired me to clean my house. Everything feels so much better with a clean house and no laundry piled on my decorative armchairs. Oh and BTW, I think roses have nothing on peonies. THEY ARE GORGEOUS!

Oh and on an even brighter, brighter note, Molly peed on the potty all by herself today without anyone persuading her. That is the best pick-me-up of all.

I am going to go right ahead and agree with roses having nothing on peonies. My name may be Rose, but peonies are my true flower love ;D I've got two rose bushes, but five peonies.
I am relieved you are waiting to do the frock until Mon. I couldn't get the collar to print and was disappointed, lol, now I get to try again, woo hoo!

Peonies have a lightheartedness that roses just do not have!

Everyone has an off week from time to time!! Peonies always make me feel better!

I'm sorry the dress didn't out as well as you would have liked. Sometimes walking away from a project for a few days is the best thing to do. Looking forward to next week!

The Peonies are gorgeous!

Looking forward to next week and the other projects you have planned.

First of all...CONGRATS on the potty success. I have one potty trained and another one who will start the process hopefully in 6 months. I agree with the peonies comment. They are such beautiful flowers. I love the way they smell. The only downfall are the ants that make them bloom. I hope your week gets a little brighter!

We all certainly have those weeks! I'm actually glad you're pushing FbF until next week, I wasn't ready this week, anyway! :) Congrats on the potty business, that is certainly a big step!
And, totally agree with peonies. They make me swoon! I have to hold myself back on cutting too many of them.
Hope you have a great day! :)

Yay for Molly!

Sorry to hear your week is going badly. But I'm glad it's picking up now! Yay for Molly! My daughter is almost three and she still couldn't care less about wet pants.

Your peonies are gorgeous! They're not flowering here yet (Canada) but I can't wait.

I read your blog every day, I show it to my friends even if they have no clue about crafting and it may sound bad to say but I'm happy you shared that one of your projects didn't work out. it makes me feel better about all the stuff I mess up on. I appreciate you being honest about who you are and not faking it. I love your blog and I love that you're doing the frock by friday thing, I wish I could do it but I don't have a printer! I'll have to figure a way around that. Thank you so much for your blog it really gets me motivated to craft! Oh and when did you start potty training? we have our first daughter who is 18 months old and I don't know when would be the best time to start

Hambergoosa & Jo,
Actually Molly is close to THREE! We decided to let her do it on her own time.

She has just started to take an interest.

Lily started around 2 years. And I let her do it on her own time too.

Every child is different. But I don't push them and it seems to have worked out okay:)

Thanks for asking!

Amy,
I totally didn't know that (about the ants). But the ironic part is that I saw the ants in there and thought it was strange. You're referring to those really little red ones, right?

Yay for potty trained-ness! That's gotta be a good feeling! Even though I said I was ready to go this week, this actually works out better. My week has turned into a frazzled one too for many a reason, and I wouldn't have been able to follow along each day anyway. So this will be better. :)

I just found that out about the ants too! Amazing!
Don't be hard on yourself, Kathleen! You do so much with your blog and it is SOOOO great! You deserve a break!

I can't wait to see the fabric you're waiting on.

Peonies and roses. Beautiful picture! So happy you're starting next week. I have a great bright lemony yellow linen for this dress.

I just printed out the FbF pattern and plan to tape it together this weekend, thank you!

I noticed that the collar pattern is for sizes 4-12. By waist measurement, I'm a size 42, I think, in the European sizes; that's more or less an 18, maybe, in US sizes?

I'm thinking the collar pattern looks really simple to enlarge 3 more sizes, but would take your advice.

I'm really excited about the FbF project, and grateful to you for starting it. And as you say here, Fb(Next)F gives me time to get my own self together.

Thanks!

oh, please, take a rest!!!
your post are great, but we can wait if you are not in the mood...

Yesterday when I didn't see a post about FbF, I was hoping that it would just be moved to next week! It seems like we all have such busy craft schedules this week. I hope your fabric arrives soon!

If it's any consolation, your blog is looking lovely these days. Lots of bright colors and fun sewing things!

Glad you are taking a week to regroup! Not sure how you manage to do EVERYTHING without taking a break once in a while!

;)

Hi Kathleen, just found your blog through the coffee date dress FbF - and love following it. How do you find the time to do it all - I only have one 3 year old, who also came to potty training when she wanted to, and the only sewing I get done is after her bed-time. Your blog sponsors are great too, although living in the UK, I wish we had such great fabric stores. This bad week is nearly over, and there's a fab FbF week to look forward to!

I LOVE peonies, when I got married I made my bouquet from white peonies in my mom's yard, they were kind enough to bloom at the perfect time and it was beautiful :) My daughter is 2 1/2 and refuses to sit on the potty, so it is nice to hear that they eventually come to it on their own!

Those peonies would inspire me to clean my house too... wish they would grow in Texas!

Sorry about the bad week.... are your girls Lily and Molly? They're my daughter's names too!

Just wanted to give you some encouragement! I love your blog and look forward to reading it. I hope this weekend and following week are better!

Congrats on the potty training. My kiddo did it for the first time by himself for the first time this week too. I am so elated that it's finally "clicking"!

Please consider posting your failure sometime. It'll encourage those of us who have more fails than successes.

And I might actually be able to join in the frock next week. I like the idea, but almost never wear skirts or dresses, so I have a hard time deciding if it would be worth making one.....
