This is a really great flickr favs post chock full of giveaways!

Every girl needs a skirt for heading to the market; a market skirt with a pocket for fruit (and a stash of candy).

These are the perfect skirts for hanging out and sharing sodas with friends.

Okay, here's the best part, the skirts featured to the left are to be given away on Made.

Here's another giveaway heads up!

Flickr user Raegun saw these shorts on Katie Did and loved them. AS DID I! She made her own little pair and is giving them away on her blog RaeGun Ramblings.

Don't you just love the vintage fawn fabric?

Check out this adorable rickrack, patchwork skirt!

Pink and rickrack in the summer are divine:)

And be back tomorrow! I'll be posting some of the 20 simple skirts that Grosgrain readers have made!

Boojiboo Flirty Apron GUEST GIVEAWAY!!!! CLOSED.

June 25, 2009

Sometimes I really get into cooking. If I come across a recipe that excites me I go all out, buy $30 worth of ingredients, special serving dishes and go at it. For some reason or another this hasn't happened recently. But if I had one of these aprons by Boojiboo I think that would quickly change!

Oh aren't they the most darling?! Imagine your husband coming home to you cooking with one of these flirty feminine aprons on. I LOVE IT!

This giveaway is for any one of her many famous aprons in her store.

My favorite is the Maggie Vintage Inspired Pink Cupcake Full Apron pictured to the left. I love how it flares out and has the 'sweetest' retro design.

Boojiboo specializes in vintage inspired aprons for adults and children ( see below pic). The apron styles are all ORIGINAL Boojiboo designs, they make their own patterns to ensure a perfect fit, do not be fooled by imitations, make sure you own the original apron with the sweetheart neckline, flared skirt, and fitted bust!!!

They even have little aprons and reversible bibs for the little ones in retro prints.

If your purchase is for any special day, they will wrap it up and even include a little card, with your personal message! Just drop them a line or write it in 'message to seller' at checkout

All their products are original and handmade with love out of their tiny home. Their items will last you a LONG time. They take pride in their work, meaning no sloppy stitching, things are nice and ironed, and most of all, everything looks PRETTY!

Boojiboo is based out of the wonderful city of La Mirada. Boojiboo is run from their home, and everything you purchase is 100% handmade with love by them. If you would like to purchase from them, you can check out their online store or go to one of the many craft fairs they sell at.

They are a team of three, Boojiboo is the sewer but she gets lots of help from her two lovely daughters. They help her with custom orders, answering convos/emails, and listing as she claims she is technologically illiterate:) But she does the rest, including packing, shipping, and the funnest part of it, fabric shopping! She is a stay at home mom, so after the other household duties are taken care of, she has nothing to do but sew sew sew!

If you are interested in buying wholesale you can receive 20% off the item's listed price, with the minimum order being $200.00. You MUST contact Boojiboo BEFORE you order the aprons for the discount to apply.

The top of each aprons isn't just a flat piece, but has shape for a better fit. They've tested and made sure their aprons fit and look flattering on ANY body type, so rest-assured it will look good on you!

New Sponsor: Love Letters

June 24, 2009

What better way to decorate a blank wall than a custom or pre-designed removable piece of art?

If you are a renter, these are PERFECT since they leave no marks or holes.

Rebekah of Love Letters spends hours on each design, often designing it, taking a break from it, coming back to it and making more changes until it's just perfect! Her store is a marriage of her love of words/quotes/quips and creating. She loves knowing that the products she creates, whether a sign or a decal will become a part of a home.

Rebekah, a former TV News Reporter turned stay-at-home mom, left the TV biz in 2006 after her little girl was born and says that it was the best decision she has ever made!!!

Two years later, she had a little boy. She cherishes every moment with her kids... and they're busy moments! Her business keeps her occupied while the kids are sleeping and her husband is doing homework.

Says Rebekah, "I love, love, love to experiment. I think of things I would like, my friends would like, or that I think other people would like and I get to work creating. Most of my signs are painted, but some are decoupaged with paper, others are texturized and antiqued. Everyone's different. I try to please all palates :)"

Rebekah is also offering a special discount to all Grosgrain followers/lovers!

Says Rebekah, "All through the month of July I'm offering 20% off to Grosgrain-obsessed people, like myself :) Upon checkout, just type the word GROSGRAIN in the Message to Seller box. I'll reimburse the discount amount via Paypal immediately!"

The products in her shop are just a small sampling of what she has done or what she can do. She loves and welcomes custom orders. She's been so amazed by my customers' ideas. She loves working with them and then seeing the end product.

LOVE LETTERS signs and designs make GREAT gifts for any holiday, weddings, baby showers, birthdays, housewarming or just because.

If you need ideas for sayings or designs, Rebekah has plenty up her sleeve and would love to help!

New Sponsor: Skin Care Rx

June 23, 2009

With summer pretty much here, my trips to the drug store have definitely increased. Tanning lotion, bronzers, spf foundation, self-tanners, etc. If you want to get your lotions and potions online instead of driving down to the drug store, Skin Care Rx is a great place to look.

One unique feature about their company is that they employ several Master Estheticians that are available to help their online customers select the right product for their specific skin needs via phone five days a week, twelve hours a day.

Other helpful tips are also available including this week's article which applies to self-tanners, a topic that always leaves me hungery for more information. Which ones are streaky? Which ones are orange? How much is too much?

You can shop by skin type, brand or condition of your skin.

Skin Care Rx carries many beauty brands such as: Obagi, Jane Iredale, and Clarisonic. They are also determined to give you the highest quality products at a competitive price. In fact, They're so confident in their prices, that they're willing to offer a 115% price-match guarantee to keep you shopping with them.

Skin Care Rx also offers free shipping over orders of $49.

I know I missed a Saturday last week. Shame on me! I'm sorry. I wasn't feeling very well and the house was messy. Whenever I those two combine the fallout is devestating.

But it looks like Grosgrain's flickr users have been busy and productive! Look at this sweet little top by An Art Nest. I love the little collar detail. If you look close it sticks up from the shirt. And the big red buttons are the perfect touch.

Take a look at liliashp's little lemonade dress.

I have my mind set to try a smocking project. I'm just waiting for the right one to come along.

This little yellow picnic patterned dress is perfect for summer!

I just had to post ohsohappytogether's adorable peak-a-boo frock! I fell head over heals for the play of patterns. The little head scarf was the perfect touch! Why can't they sell stuff like this in stores?!

As for me, I have a big weekend ahead of me. Molly's "official" second birthday was yesterday and we are having a small party for her on Monday. Just family, no big show. But I am so far behind. I'm hoping it will magically come together in the end.

I had envisioned making matching frocks for my girls to match a theme but I don't know if I will be able to do everything in time. You know how last minute things go.

The weather also sucks! It's the summer solstice and everything is cold, wet and grey. Not very inspiring:(

Fortunately I have my Grosgrain flickr group for some inspiration;)

20 Minute Simple Skirt Tutorial AND GIVEAWAY!!!! CLOSED.

June 16, 2009

Did you ever have a piece of fabric you loved but didn't have any idea how to use it? Any leftovers from a previous project? Bought too much of a bolt you just had to have but never found a use for? If you're anything like me you either buy too much or too little.

First thing's first, DON'T GO OUT AND BUY A SKIRT PATTERN. Most of them are just rectangles! You don't need them! This is a great way to use those scrap pieces without investing too much of your time!
What's more, if you use a coupon when buying your fabric you could make each skirt for somewhere around $5 or less depending on how much you spend per yard. Only one yard is needed. The tutorial will teach you how to make each of these skirts which are included in the giveaway as well.

I'm all about sewing the quick and dirty way! Fast is key. I have such a low attention span, if a project takes more than a couple hours I'm far more likely to abandon it. This little project will add to your wardrobe but only take 20 minutes or less....no lie....I promise!

The key is to have all your materials in front of you before you begin. Searching for items around the house is so time consuming AND frustrating! Having everything at hand makes a project seem twice as simple.

For this projec
t you will need in front of you a: threaded sewing machine, scissors, safety pin, elastic and of course fabric (about 3/4 to one yard). And I like to include a seam ripper because I always seem to need this at some point in any given project.

Once you have all those things you can begin. The best part about this tutorial is that there is no measuring tape involved which really cuts down on time! To really make this go by fast I used one yard that I purchased at the fabric store (typically 45" wide). As with most cotton fabrics the sides are sealed so that they do not fray. This is key because you will not have to hem the bottom of the skirt when done.

First take your material and fold it in half so that the two sealed sides meet.

Second. Cut down the middle. Be sure to keep both pieces completely equal because when you sew them together later they will have to match up evenly.

Third. Sew the two pieces right sides together at one end so that you have one long (not wide) piece.

Fourth. Now to sew a casing. To do this all you have to do is fold over the top raw edge (not the sealed bottom) about 1". Sew along the top and be sure to make the casing as large or as small as your elastic. A casing too small will make the elastic roll and a casing too large with bunch up your fabric when the elastic is relaxed.

In my photo I sealed the raw edge with my serger. You don't have to do this but if you have a serger it will help to keep from fraying.

Fifth. Now measure the elastic by wrapping it around your waist. BE SURE TO DO IT UNDER YOUR CLOTHING. I am doing it over mine because I was wearing a dress and didn't want to show everyone my undies:) Subtract about 2-3 inches from the amount you used to wrap around your waist and cut the elastic.

Six. Now to thread it through the casing you just made. If you have one of those plastic casing tools then by all means use that but if you don't (or can't find yours like me) attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic.

Seven. Push the safety pin through the casing easing it down the tunnel by bunching the fabric then moving it down the elastic. When the end of the elastic reaches the hole where you started to thread the elastic attach a safety pin to keep the elastic from pulling through the casing any further.

Eight. When the end of elastic meets the end of the casing be sure to stitch the ends of the casing and elastic so that it won't be pulled through the tunnel. Do this on both ends.

Nine. Finally sew sides together with right sides facing each other. Since you didn't trim the fabric at the bottom you won't need to sew a hem at the bottom unless you want to. Normally a 45" fabric will be long enough to fall at your knees when you cut it in half.

Turn right side out.
AND YOU'RE DONE! New skirt.

Optional. I made another skirt and added a red peaking pettiskirt by simply sewing the red material under the hem I made in step four. But you can also add it at the beginning and fold it over with the hem. If you want it to peak out at the bottom you will have to trim your top layer so that it is shorter than your bottom layer. The top layer will then have to be hemmed so that you don't have a raw edge. This might add an extra 5-7 minutes to the project.

And if any of you were interested the dress I'm wearing is from Forever 21 and it was only $13.80!!!!

Since these skirts are elastic I would say they would fit a size 2-8.
As usual, if you would like a chance to win these skirts just link back to this post. If you have any questions see the "questions and answers" link to the right. If you use blogger just use the "create a link" link at the bottom of this post. If you don't use blogger, that's fine too. Hopscotch Camis GIVEAWAY!!!! CLOSED.

June 14, 2009

For various reasons I've been sidetracked, caught off guard and feeling just plain blah and hadn't been able to post any new stuff last week. Rain was also a factor:( But I promise this week will be different. I'm excited to be back!

This was the little top I had thought of just before I fell asleep a couple months ago. It's really taken a long time to come to fruition. This is partially due to the fact that around this time of year there are no stores that sell corduroy! None. I even had a hard time finding it online. Finally, an etsy seller had just what I was looking for. She even included a little potpourri satchel with the material so it smelled all good and sweet when I opened it up. Don't some etsy sellers pay the best attention to detail? It's the little things, ya know?

At any rate, this little top was made with my new serger. So....a)it won't fall apart in the wash. b)won't fray all over the place. c) looks awesome!

opera houseWhenever I make my own pattern there are little things that I would perfect if I had to do it over again. When I first envisioned this top I had wanted the little ruffles to be closer together on the chest so that you could see the sides. But I didn't take into account the very tiny frames my girls have. I had to do a lot of trimming and in the end the ruffles were spread out but I think it still looks okay.

I made the ruffles with the serger. It soooo fabulous! No need for elastic thread or a special foot all you have to do it set the differential feed to something like "2". As easy as changing the tension and VOILA! Ruffles! I love it.

However, I did just buy a ruffle attachment for the serger with is supposed to only ruffle the top layer while keeping the bottom layer straight. This is very useful but I have my doubts. The last time I bought one of these it very lightly gathered the bottom layer. But I bought this attachment specifically for this serger so maybe things will be different this time.

Along the little ruffles I sewed some red and yellow piping for a more polished look.

Each of the camis have three pintucks in the front which flare out at the bottom for a fun, little-girl look.

One of my favorite things about these little camis are the fabric covered buttons on the front that match the ruffles on the sides.

Someday I'll post a fabric button tutorial but for these tops I used a fabric button "kit" bought at JoAnns. I have to tell you, they are about a hundred times easier than making your own. I'll never go back to homemade buttons again but it's still a good thing to know if you only have one or two and don't want to run down to the store.

The back is enclosed with metal snaps which I fastened with snap pliers. I have mixed feelings about the snap pliers. On one hand, if everything goes smoothly (which it never does) it can be an easy way to add an enclosure. However, most of the time, the little prongs don't exactly line up with the snaps and then the buttons won't work correctly and you must use needlenose pliers to remove them from the clothing without tearing the fabric. Does anyone else have this problem with snap pliers? And if so, what advice might you have?

opera house
As for Lily and Molly, they had more fun on the swings than the hopscotch. I left hoping someone in the neighborhood might get some good use out of it before the rain would come and wash it away.

I would say the yellow top would fit a size 3-5 and the little red top would fit a size 1-2.

As usual, if you would like a cha
nce to win these camis just link back to this post. If you have any questions see the "questions and answers" link to the right. If you use blogger just use the "create a link" link at the bottom of this post. If you don't use blogger, that's fine too. New Sponsor: Baby Hank Vintage

June 10, 2009

In the designs I make for my children I especially love the ones that look vintage: A pair of short yellow overalls or a swing dress with matching bloomers. They just don't sell those kinds of clothes anymore.

The fabric is so delicate with some of the sweetest embroidery details.

If you look for these sorts of things when hand choosing your baby clothes you absolutely MUST take a look at Baby Hank Vintage!

Liz Stanley, a thrifter and New Yorker born and bred, finds the sweetest clothes straight from your old hazy childhood photographs and sells them at very reasonable prices!

Baby Hank Vintage is also offering a new 30% off section with some very adorable clothes. The store is updated WEEKLY so check back on her blog 'Say YES to Hoboken' for new stuff.

Seriously, is that not the sweetest thing you've ever seen?

It's being given away on the creator's blog: Rae Gun Ramblings.

It's one of my fav flickr posts this week! Wouldn't this look just adorable with a super short orange or green dress?

I just loved this as well! So delicate. I've seen a trend toward fabric necklaces of all sorts.

The creator behind this necklace was nice enough to post a tutorial on how to recreate your own neck adornment on her blog Happy Together.

I liked the way this photograph was staged. The lighting is great and the little girl's expression is so natural.

And guess what? This dress is also being given away on the creator's blog: Sweet Emmelie. But the giveaway ends on Monday so go check her out!

If you too would like to be featured on Grosgrain just

We at Shabby Apple Dresses love to help women dress but are also commited to helping women live as well. Thus we are supporting the fight against global poverty by partnering with Unitus-a non-profit organization that accelerates access to life-changing financial services for those at the bottom of the economic pyramid.

Shabby Apple donates 5% of its net dress sales to support work in India (where Shabby Apple Dresses sources many of its dresses the textiles used to manufacture its dresses). Shabby Apple Marseilles Dress Review and Coupon

June 3, 2009

Oh me, oh my, bestill my eyes! Isn't this dress amazing! It is by Shabby Apple and if you're very....very good I have a special surprise for you on Friday;)

This morning I drove out to pick up an iced coffee from McDonald's for Brian and I. When I returned a Fed Ex pack sat below my mailbox and I knew just what was inside. What a treat! I excitedly opened the bag and unfurled my brand new Shabby Apple Marseilles dress.

I put it on, followed the wrap instructions and I was pleased to discover that it looks as good on me as it did in the online photos. Flattering to the hips and bust. So often, I'm pulling at my neckline because it dips too low. This dress fell at just the perfect spot so as not to show any cleavage.

Part of what the creators behind Shabby Apple wanted to accomplish when they started their company was to design clothes that
covered enough skin to make you really feel comfortable without losing style. No sweaters, no camis, just fabulous dress!
opera house

I especially love the popped collar! So few things lend themselves to this look. However, this retro style dress looks great with a high collar. And if you're feeling more casual, just fold down!

The blue and white stripes have such a summery feel, I can't wait to wear this to an outdoor dinner with friends by the river....better yet, the Hamptons:)

The best part about Shabby Apple is that their prices are surprisingly affordable! If you love this dress too, please stop by on Friday for a special surprise!

If you just can't wait until then, Shabby Apple has extended a 15% off coupon to Grosgrain readers! Just use the coupon code Grosgrainfabulous15off
at checkout.

HAPPY SHOPPING!
